"Happily Ever After High School"

Exclusive Interview with the Author of
"Happily Ever After High School" Savannah Ostler
If you adore Disney Princesses and love fantasy fairytales then you will love HAPPILY EVER AFTER HIGH SCHOOL By Savannah Ostler. I had the pleasure interviewing Actress and now Author Savannah Ostler about her first young adult novel. Savannah Ostler moved from  Utah to Los Angeles couple of years ago to pursuit a career in Acting and screen writing. I have read the whole book and felt in love with this remarkable story. I believe its a fresh new storyline with wonderful characters. This novel brings back memories from your favorite childhood fairytale stories but with a twist.

EliteEjo: What inspired you to write this story?

Savannah Ostler: I have always been obsessed with fairy tales! I love everything about them- the optimism, the princesses, the princes, the fairies, the magic... the happy endings! I was inspired to write this story in 2010, when I one day thought, "How awesome would a fairy tale high school be?" This idea stemmed the entire story. Next, came my  main character, Albany. I wanted to come up with a unique name that you don't hear everyday, and I wanted it to somehow be a little personal to me. Since my name is Savannah and I am named after a city, I looked up different city names in the US, and Albany stuck out to me.Albany is definitely not your typical high school girl. She is independent, determined, unique, creative, and she is definitely a day dreamer. She absolutely hates public school, because she feels that she doesn't belong there. Albany doesn't really have any friends, as the students at her school find her... well, odd. Despite being an outcast, Albany finds contentment in her books- especially fairytales. She holds onto the hope that one day she will escape her mundane, everyday life and be rescued by her very own handsome prince.

EliteEjo: Which character in the story do you connect with and why?

Savannah Ostler: I can personally really connect with my main character, Albany.
In all honesty, she is pretty much me in high school. She is a dreamer, she is smart, she is optimistic, she hates math, and she is not afraid to create her own path and get what she wants.
That isn't to say that Albany doesn't have her fair share of character flaws, though. Albany is a mess, she can never keep her room, or anything for that matter- clean. She is extremely stubborn. She has a very witty sense of humor, but she often uses sarcasm to her advantage, especially in times of conflict. For those who don't understand her, her stubbornness could be a turn off. In reality, she just likes to stick to her gut and is not afraid to diverge from the herd. In fact, that's what she does best. She's a girl who knows what she wants, and she won't stop until she gets it. She doesn't have many friends, but if someone does befriend her, she is their friend for life.
Finally, Albany has always been obsessed with fairy tales, and everything to do with magic and happily ever after. That is me all the way!

EliteEjo: Can you describe the book in 140 characters?

Savannah Ostler: Albany, a normal, every day girl is confronted with her wildest dreams when she is transferred to a fairy tale high school.

EliteEjo: What is the message of this story?

Savannah Ostler: I believe that the story has several messages. One of them being, that sometimes even your wildest dreams aren't always what you imagined them to be. Sometimes, you have to create your own magic in life. Also, another message from the story is that true love is real- even the kind of love that you read in storybooks. You just have to find it, and when you have found it- you'll know.

EliteEjo: Will there be a movie for this book?

Savannah Ostler: That is a great question! Funny you should ask. I actually first started writing the story as a screenplay. I finished the screenplay in 2011, and then started revising it. It was my original intent to make it a movie, but I thought that I should first pursue it as a book, since the film would cost a lot to produce, having so many special effects and such. So, I began the journey of writing my very first novel. I used the screenplay as a skeleton for the novel, and went from there.
So to answer your question, yes, I would love for Happily Ever After High School to someday be made into a movie. I already have the screenplay!

EliteEjo: Is there a sequel to this book and what can we expect from Albany?

Savannah Ostler:  I'm glad you asked, because there is a sequel to Happily Ever After High School! I am currently in the process of writing it. It is my goal to have a finished first draft by this spring. Albany's journey with the fairy tale world is certainly not over. In the sequel, she encounters old friends, new friends, old enemies... and new enemies.

And my first interview went Happily Ever After.
